2000: Ballet for Life, a ballet in tribute to Queen’s Freddie Mercury opened to a sell-out crowd & fellow Queen members Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London.
1996: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were the musical guest on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live where they performed Walls and Angel Dream.
1991: Miles Davis died from a stroke, pneumonia and respiratory failure in Santa Monica, CA. He was 65 years old.
1991: Bryan Adams was awarded the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia.
1976: A&M Records sued George Harrison for $6 million over non-delivery of his latest album Thirty Three & 1/3. Harrison had missed the deadline by two months due to being diagnosed with serum hepatitis earlier in the year. Warner Bros. Records bought out Harrison’s A&M contract and released the album that November.
1974: Bad Company reached the top of the Billboard 200 album chart for the first and only time when their self-titled debut began a one week run at number one.
1968: Hey Jude by The Beatles began a nine week run on top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. This would be the longest run on top of the American singles chart a Beatles single achieved.
1958: Dore Records released the To Know Him Is to Love Him by the Teddy Bears, which would go to number one two months later. This song launched the career of Phil Spector, who wrote, sang and arranged this song.
