2004: Simon and Garfunkel closed out the European leg of their second reunion tour by performing a free concert at Rome’s Coliseum in front of 600,000 fans.

1984: Eric Clapton, touring as part of Roger Waters’ backing band left Waters’ tour in Montreal. Waters was touring in support of his solo album The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking, which Clapton played on alongside David Sanborn & Michael Kamen.

1979: James Taylor performed a free concert at New York’s Central Park to show his support for restoring the park’s Sheep Meadow.

1980: John Philips of The Mamas and The Papas was arrested for allegedly dealing cocaine in his New York summer home. He was sentenced to 250 hours of community service in the form of giving anti-drug lectures.

1969: One night before beginning a stand at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, Elvis Presley performed a private concert for the press & friends such as Burt Bacharach, Dick Clark, & Wayne Newton.
