2000: Mike and the Mechanics & Sad Café singer Paul Young died of a heart attack in Wythenshawe, England. He was 53 years old.

1998: Aerosmith’s drummer Joey Kramer was involved in a freak accident when his car caught fire & was completely destroyed at a gas station while filling up. He was treated for second degree burns & Aerosmith had to postpone 14 concerts as a result.

1989: While Pink Floyd performed on a floating stage in Venice, their audience of 200,000 ended up causing damage to Venice’s bridges & make marble crumble from centuries-old buildings.

1980: Linda Ronstadt made her musical-theatre debut as Mabel in the New York Shakespeare Festival production of The Pirates of Penzance.

1972: Elton John began a five week run at the top of the Billboard 200 album charts with Honky Chateau, his first number one album in the U.S.
