2004: Apple announced that 100 million songs had been sold via its iTunes Music Store, 15 months after opening.

1992: Axl Rose was arrested at New York’s Kennedy Airport on riot charges dating back to a July 2, 1991 Guns N’ Roses concert in St. Louis.

1983: Traffic’s saxophone player Chris Wood died of pneumonia at Birmingham, England’s Queen Elizabeth hospital. He was 39 years old.

1962: The Rolling Stones made their live debut at London’s Marquee Club.

1957: Alan Freed hosted the premiere of Friday Night Rock ‘n’ Roll on ABC. The show would be cancelled when southern ABC affiliates were enraged when Frankie Lymon danced with a white girl.

1954: Elvis Presley signed his first record contract with Sam Phillips’ Sun Records.
