2000: In Jacksonville, FL, vandals pull up the grave of Lynryd Skynyrd frontman Ronnie Van Zant & the ashes of guitarist Steve Gaines. Their remains were shortly moved to an undisclosed burial site.

1998: George Harrison announced that he had been battling throat cancer since the summer of 1997 and was winning.

1991: Skid Row’s Slave to the Grind entered the Billboard album charts at number one, becoming the first heavy metal band to debut at the top of the album charts.

1985: Mick Jagger & David Bowie recorded their cover of Dancing in the Street & film the video in 12 hours.

1969: The Jimi Hendrix Experience played their final concert together at the Denver Pop Festival, which took place at Mile High Stadium.
