2004: David Bowie cut short a performance at the Hurricane Festival in Germany complaining of chest pains & was hospitalized. What was originally thought to be a pinched nerve in his shoulder turned out to be a blocked artery that required emergency angioplasty. Bowie would cancel his remaining scheduled tour dates for 2004.

1988: Original Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Hillel Slovak died of a heroin overdose shortly after the band had returned to the U.S. from a tour of Europe.

1977: Pink Floyd set a then-record for largest number of tickets sold for a one-act concert when 83,000 fans attend Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium on their Animals tour.

1967: An estimated 400 million people in 26 countries saw The Beatles debut All You Need is Love as part of the One World satellite broadcast. Among those who provided backing vocals on the track include Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, and Keith Moon.
