2005: Billy Corgan takes out a full page advertisement in the Chicago Tribune announcing he wants to reform the Smashing Pumpkins. They would release their reunion album Zeitgeist in 2007.

2001: Blues great John Lee Hooker died in his sleep at 83 years old.

1993: The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal from John Fogerty, who was hoping to recoup legal fees from a copyright lawsuit with the other remaining members of Credence Clearwater Revival.

1990: Little Richard was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame & Los Angeles declared Little Richard Day.

1975: Ritchie Blackmore announced that he was quitting Deep Purple to form his new group Rainbow.
