1997: Carl Perkins underwent surgery to clear a blocked carotid artery in his neck in Memphis.

1977: George Harrison & Pattie Boyd were officially divorced. Boyd would later marry Eric Clapton.

1972: Columbia Records boss John Hammond signed Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen started to assemble the E Street Band with various Asbury Park musicians.

1969: The Rolling Stones announced that Mick Taylor would be replacing the recently depated Brian Jones on guitar.

1965: The Beach Boys were on top of the U.S. pop charts with Help Me Rhonda. 25 years later on this day, Brian Wilson’s daughters Carnie & Wendy would top the charts with Hold On as part of Wilson Phillips.
