1981: Sting was named songwriter of the year at the 26th Ivor Novello Awards.

1979: George Harrison, Paul McCartney, & Ringo Starr perform together for the first time since the breakup of The Beatles at the wedding reception of Eric Clapton & Patti Boyd. Joining them for a jam session included Clapton, Ginger Baker & Mick Jagger.

1978: Dire Straits released their debut major label single Sultans of Swing.

1976: After falling asleep at the wheel, Keith Richards crashes his Bentley in Buckinghamshire, England. Police discover cocaine & LSD in the car.

1967: The Beatles held a press party at manager Brian Epstein’s house in London for the launch of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

1961: The Everly Brothers become one of the first acts of the rock era to start their own record label, Caliope.
