2004: Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood is announced by the BBC as their composer in residence.

1982: Joe Strummer reappears after disappearing for a month moving to Paris to get away from The Clash. He cites exhaustion & doubts about his career as the reason for this disappearance.

1980: Joy Division singer Ian Curtis is found dead after hanging himself in his Manchester, England home.

1978: The Buddy Holly Story has its world premiere in Dallas, TX. Gary Busey would later be nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Buddy Holly.

1968: The Northern California Folk Rock Festival takes place in Santa Clara, CA. Acts on the bill include Grateful Dead, The Doors, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane & Big Brother & the Holding Company.

1963: The Beatles begin their third U.K. tour supporting Roy Orbison. By the end of the tour, The Beatles were the headliners.
