2001: Aerosmith, Queen, Steely Dan, Paul Simon & Michael Jackson were some of the acts inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Kid Rock inducted Aerosmith, Dave Grohl of Nirvana and the Foo Fighters inducted Queen, & Moby inducted Steely Dan.

1982: Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist Randy Rhoads died in a plane crash in Leesburg, FL when the plane crashed into Osbourne’s tour bus. The pilot Andrew Aycock & hairdresser Rachel Youngblood were also killed. Rhoads was 25 years old.

1976: Free guitarist Paul Kossoff died of drug-related heart problems on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. He was 25 years old.

1975: Kiss recorded their concert at Detroit’s Cobo Hall which was recorded in part for their Alive! live album. Rush opened the concert.

1974: Jefferson Airplane officially renamed themselves Jefferson Starship.

1971: Jethro Tull released Aqualung, which went on to become their most successful album selling three million copies in the U.S. alone.

1970: David Bowie married his first wife, Angela Barnett at Bromley Register Office in Kent, U.K.

1957: Elvis Presley purchased Graceland in Memphis. Presley paid approximately $100,000 for the property, which is now a National Historic Landmark.
