2005: Billy Joel entered rehab for the second time for treatment of alcohol abuse & it was revealed that Joel had been suffering from gastrointestinal distress.

1992: During a Metallica concert at the Orlando Arena in Orlando, fans dangled an usher by his ankles from a balcony as trouble broke out during the concert. Metallica would be fined $38,000 for repairs & cleaning after the audience trashed the arena.

1991: Valerie Bertinelli gave birth to her only child with her then-husband Eddie Van Halen, a son named Wolfgang William Van Halen. Wolfgang became Van Halen’s bassist in 2006.

1979: Twisted Sister became the first band to sellout New York City’s 3,000-seat Palladium without releasing an album. They didn’t gain a record deal until 1982.

1974: Elvis Presley performed in his hometown of Memphis for the first time since 1961 where he began a four concert stand at the Mid-South Coliseum.

1971: Simon and Garfunkel were the big winners at the 13th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles where they won six Grammys including Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

1964: Legendary DJ Alan Freed was charged with tax evasion following an investigation of payola by the IRS.
