2004: A U.S. District Court judge denied the request of
a preliminary injunction against Geffen Records filed by Axl Rose, Slash &
Duff McKagan to prevent the release of a Guns N’ Roses Greatest Hits album.
Jackson Browne, George Harrison, Bob Seger, Traffic, & ZZ Top were inducted
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bruce Springsteen inducted Browne, Jeff
Lynne & Tom Petty inducted Harrison, Kid Rock inducted Seger & Keith
Richards inducted ZZ Top.
1999: Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Del Shannon, & Bruce Springsteen were
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Joel was inducted by Ray
Charles & Springsteen was inducted by Bono.
The family of Buddy Holly filed a lawsuit against MCA Records for allegedly
withholding royalties, forging contracts & releasing albums without consent
of the family.
1980: The Clash’s movie Rude Boy premiered at London’s Prince Charles
Cinema. The band members were disenchanted with the movie & it didn’t see
release in the U.S. until 2006.
Peter Gabriel reached the top ten on the U.K. singles chart for the first
time with Games Without Frontiers which peaked at number four.
1977: Bad Company’s fourth studio album Burnin’ Sky was certified gold by
the RIAA. It was commercially, Bad Company’s second least successful album
in the U.S. with Paul Rodgers singing for them.
Kansas received their first platinum album for their fourth studio album
Leftoverture, which later went on to sell four million copies in the U.S.
alone.
