2005: Judas Priest released their fifteenth studio
album Angel of Retribution, their first album with Rob Halford since 1990’s
Painkiller. Halford re-joined them in 2003.
1995: R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry left the stage during the middle of a
concert in Lausanne, Switzerland with a severe headache. He was later
diagnosed with a brain aneurysm & concerts scheduled through May were
postponed.
1994: Nirvana performed their final concert at the Terminal Einz in Munich,
Germany, an airport hangar in front of 3,000 fans.
At the 36th annual Grammy Awards held at New York City’s Radio City Music
Hall, Ozzy Osbourne won his first Grammy for Best Metal Performance and Meat
Loaf won his first Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance.
1991: The Doors movie starring Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison premiered in North
America.
1980: Patti Smith married MC5 guitarist Fred “Sonic” Smith in Detroit, where
they would settle down & start a family.
1975: The Eagles reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for
the first time with Best of My Love which spent one week at number one.
1969: Jim Morrison was charged with lewd & lascivious behavior after
Morrison allegedly exposed his penis to the audience during a Doors concert
in Miami at the Dinner Key Auditorium.
1966: The Byrds’ singer Gene Clark announced that he was leaving The Byrds
due to his fear of flying.
