2005: Keith Knudsen, drummer for The Doobie Brothers
died of chronic pneumonia in Kentfield, CA. He was 56 years old.
1990: Del Shannon died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at his
home in Santa Clarita, CA. He was 55 years old.
1981: R.E.M. made their first recording sessions at Bombay Studios in
Smyrna, GA. Some of the songs recorded included their debut single Radio
Free Europe which was released the following July on local Hib-Tone Records,
which pressed 1,000 copies.
1980: David Bowie & his wife Angie divorced after being married for nearly a
decade. David would receive custody of his son Zowie.
1971: Bob Dylan’s documentary of his 1966 tour of the U.K. Eat the Document
premiered at New York City’s Academy of Music. The film would only receive
two other commercial showings.
Frank Zappa was forced to cancel a concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall
after venue officials deemed Zappa’s classical opus 200 Motels to be obscene
& refuse to allow its performance.
1969: Ginger Baker & Eric Clapton of Cream announced that they have formed
Blind Faith with Steve Winwood.
